Jakarta, 24 November 2023 – As an effort to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), PT Energia Prima Nusantara (EPN) implements the utilization of the residual material for optimal coal combustion, known as Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA). This is one of the strategies in achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060 and is a strategic step in efforts to utilize industrial waste to support various sectors.

FABA, which is ash from burning coal at the PAMA-1 EPN Steam Power Plant , is not only considered waste, but is capable of becoming a high-value resource that can support sustainability and economic growth .
Throughout 2023, from the burning of coal, PLTU PAMA-1 EPN produces FABA of 2,692 tons. Meanwhile, from 2021 to November 2023, the total utilization of FABA from coal-fired power plants has reached 4,900-tons or 38.55% of the total FABA production. This figure also increased by around 54.91% compared to 2021 which only utilized FABA of 945 tons.
EPN’s Director of Technology and Operations, Eko Harry Ariadin, revealed that as a company that is committed to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in its business activities, EPN will always make various innovations to manage waste products into something that has added value for environment.
“We continue to innovate and improve the company’s role in environmental management according to international standards , comply with all environmental regulations , and increase concern for the community around the company’s operational areas . The EPN plant in Barunang Village , Central Kalimantan , not only produces electricity, but also becomes a positive force in social and economic change,” said Eko Harry Ariadin.
During the first half of 2023, EPN not only creates energy, but also produces more than
10,000 bricks and 2,000 tons of land stabilization material from FABA. This step not only reduces industrial waste , but also supports sustainable development initiatives .
EPN is committed to continuing to collaborate with various parties, including the industrial sector and the community, to explore the potential for wider use of FABA . With a focus on technological innovation and decarbonization efforts, EPN hopes to be an agent of positive change in environmental conservation and improving the welfare of communities around the company’s operational areas .
